History and Mission Statement

Colegio alternativo y respetuoso de Sevilla

Sevilla Reggio Emilia School grew out of the evolution of the nursery school El Castillo Mágico, which was founded in 2019 as an alternative to conventional Spanish schools. El Castillo Mágico was created as an early childhood education center for children from 0 to 3 years old, aimed at families seeking a second home where children are supported in a respectful and caring environment. Over time, the project gradually expanded to include children aged 3 to 6 and later extended into Elementary School. Experiencing a school like El Castillo Mágico often makes it difficult to find another that feels comparable, which is why its founders, families, and students have continued to grow together as a community.

At Sevilla Reggio Emilia School, the arts and music play a central role in teaching and learning, supporting students’ cognitive, expressive, creative, and physical development. It is the first bilingual school to base its entire educational and care program on the arts. For this reason, the team is made up of highly skilled artist-educators, alongside other educational professionals. Language and music are integrated naturally into a fluid learning environment that respects each child’s individual rhythm and natural development. Emotional education and respectful guidance in upbringing also play a central role. In this context, music stands out as a non-verbal language that connects directly with the emotions.

The school follows an open-door policy, allowing families to access the school at any time during the school day without prior authorization. To ensure safety, families use an accreditation and access control system. The aim is for families to experience the school as an extension of their own home: to feel part of it, to perceive it as a safe and nurturing space that meets children’s attachment needs and, most importantly, offers full educational transparency. Upon entering Sevilla Reggio Emilia School, families can see and sense what is happening at all times, and children never experience the feeling of being left behind a gate, separated from their primary attachment figures.

Another key feature of El Castillo Mágico is its strong connection with real life. The school actively engages with the city, its people, and nature, integrating school life with outdoor experiences. This approach is especially significant from ages 3 to 16 at Sevilla Reggio Emilia School. From the age of three, children take part in weekly breakfast shopping, observe sunrises outdoors while exploring weather, climate, seasonal changes, and natural phenomena, and visit local shops to learn about different professions through direct experience. They also explore organizations, libraries, museums, theaters, parks, and neighborhood squares, discovering the world they belong to as a community alongside their classmates.

In summary, the mission of Sevilla Reggio Emilia School is to offer a daycare center, a preschool, an elementary school, and a secondary school that everyone truly wants to attend. It provides a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable learning environment, offering high-quality alternative education simultaneously in Spanish and English. The project is aligned with the contributions of 21st-century neuroscience, psychology, positive discipline, active methodologies, and educational movements that promote personal and social development through the arts—such as Art Thinking and Invisible Pedagogies—with the ultimate goal of contributing to a fairer, more sensitive, and better society.
